The Moderator’s Advisory Committee (MAC) provides advice on the Moderator’s committee appointments and matters related to improving Town Meeting. Members are selected by the precincts. It serves as a structured forum for providing advice and feedback to the Moderator from Town Meeting Member representatives* and a venue for promoting greater transparency in Moderator decision-making. While the committee advises the Moderator, all decisions reserved for the Moderator by state law or Town Bylaw remain those of the Moderator.

Appointed by the Moderator with the sole purpose to advise the Moderator in the performance of the Moderator's legal and customary duties, this Committee is not a public body as defined by the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law. MGL ch 30A, Sections 18-25. However, the Moderator has committed that the Committee will conform to the meeting notice practices of the Open Meeting Law and provide minutes to the Town Clerk, per  Belmont General Bylaw 40-115, that will also be added to this Committee webpage.

*Notwithstanding the existence of the Moderator’s Advisory Committee, any Town Meeting Member or Belmont resident may provide feedback to the Moderator at any time.
