The Town of Belmont begins the pet licensing process starting January 1st running through March 15th. New pet licenses and license renewals must have the following:
  • Certificate of Rabies Vaccination,
  • Spay/Neuter Certificate, if not stated on the vaccination form*,
  • A completed Pet License Application Form, and
  • $12 cash or check, payable to the Town of Belmont**
*Unaltered pets (not spayed or neutered) must also include a $25 breeder fee, increasing the price to $37.
**If the pet owner is 60 years old or older, the price is $9 ($34 for unaltered pets).

Incomplete applications received will be returned to the applicant.

Pet owners may appear in person at Town Hall, mail their completed pet applications to Town Hall, Town Clerk's office, 455 Concord Ave, Belmont, MA 02478, or renew their pet's license online.

Please note, the online system is only for renewals at this time. If you are licensing a pet for the first-time in Belmont, you must appear in person or mail-in the completed application.

When renewing online, you may see that the renewal is "blocked," which means that we need an up-to-date rabies vaccination certificate from your pet's veterinarian. The Town Clerk's office can accept emails of vaccination certificates from either the pet owner or vet's office; send a PDF copy of the certificate to townclerk@belmont-ma.gov or fax it to (617) 993-2601.
